1. Measure Your Goods
What are you hoping to transport? Break out the measuring tape and get its exact dimensions, including height, length and width. You might also want to put it on a scale to ensure that your case is strong enough to withstand its weight. If you’re ever in doubt, go “over” rather than “under” when it comes to guesses and estimates.
2. Draft a Budget
Give yourself two numbers as you shop for carrying cases. The first should be the number you’re trying not to exceed; the second should be the number you absolutely refuse to exceed. The latter will be your hard limit while the former will be a guideline as you’re sorting and sifting through your options.
3. Think About Special Features

Would you prefer something with handles or wheels for easy mobility? The modern carrying case comes with a wide variety of special functions and features, so don’t be shy about finding the one that fits your demands exactly.
4. Think About Manual Versus Technological
Manual cases are the old-fashioned kind with a latch or lock. Technological cases have keys and passcodes and might even require fingerprint scans to gain entry. Obviously, the level of technology needed in a case will vary by the buyer, but it’s a good idea to have these things in your mind as you shop.
5. Consider Padding
The padding of a carrying case is one of its most essential features. If it’s too thick, it might become unwieldy or unreasonably heavy for transport; if it’s too thin, you risk damage to your equipment because it lacks proper protection. If you aren’t sure what kind of padding you need in your carrying case, don’t be afraid to talk to manufactures and get their opinion. It’s their job to know.
