What is the best flooring?

In all categories, neither engineered or laminate flooring is superior to the other. Each product satisfies different needs. It’s better to look at the two different types of flooring by category.

Appearance and comfort

Engineered Floor

The look of engineered flooring is better than that of laminate flooring. The top is made of real wood and can withstand close inspection.

Engineered wood flooring is made of all wood. It feels just as hard underfoot as solid hardwood flooring. All engineered wood flooring is pre-sanded, coated and smooth. For Engineered Wood Flooring, contact www.irwintiles.ie/wooden-flooring/engineered-wood-flooring

Laminate Floor

From a distance, laminate flooring can appear to be real wood. This similarity is not apparent when inspected closely.

Laminate flooring is soft and springy underfoot thanks to its synthetic core and foam underlayment. The wear layer feels smooth and comfortable when worn with socks or bare feet, but it can be slippery in heels.

Maintenance and Care

Both laminate and engineered flooring can be cleaned and maintained the same way, as both surfaces are delicate and should not be wet mopped.

To maintain both types, the best way is to clean as much as you can with a dry broom. Avoid using steamers or wet mops. Use only mild cleaning products without ammonia.

Squeeze the mop until it is nearly dry.

Lifespan

Engineered Floor

Premium engineered floors with thick veneers can last up to 50 years or longer if properly maintained.

Laminate Floor

The lifespan of laminate flooring is shorter than engineered flooring. If laminate flooring is installed and maintained properly, it can last up to 15 years.
