Learning to Sail Around the UK

Being on an Island there are lots of places where you can go in the UK to enjoy the sea – and going to sea on a boat is something that appeals to many people.

Here are some places to go whether you are a beginner or simply want to gain some more experience…

Falmouth – As well as being a popular holiday destination, the town of Falmouth in Cornwall is also a place that has a long history with boating and the sea. This is a great place to get into sailing or if you are an experienced sailor to acquire more skills and take your boat out to see the stunning Cornish coastline.

The Solent – This busy stretch of water located between Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is used by many boats and its strong winds and tidal conditions also make this a very challenging patch of water to sail in.

You can learn to sail here when you go to a local trainer who provides courses like this RYA powerboat level 2 www.solentboattraining.co.uk/rya-powerboat-courses/level-2 and of course the Isle of Wight itself is home to the famous Cowes week, a huge attraction to those who love sailing – it is actually the biggest sailing regatta in the world.

Alton Water – Head east over to Suffolk and you will find the popular Alton water – it is actually an inland body of water and is popular with all kinds of water sports as well as boating, and is also a favourite destination for bird watchers and walkers, due to its immense variety of bird life as well as its picturesque location.
